How Women Lead Differently and Why It Matters
Sexism,
especially in the workplace, has lasted for centuries. This may lead people to
believe that men and women work and lead teams differently, and they're right,
but not in the way people may think.
Reasons Women Leading Differently is a Good Thing
Women
leaders have been shattering barriers and misconceptions for the past many
decades. Although they adhered to the same rules that were applicable for their
male counterparts, more recently, women have learned to adapt and change the practices
that can prove more effective for their success and as a female leadership
advantage.
The
research was done on how women lead proven that they are more
collaborative and consultative than men. This has nothing to do with their
gender but more to do with how they think and act, which is different as they
have been the subordinate group for centuries. Women in leadership positions
are better all-around performers because being the non-dominant group for many
generations has given them the advantage of knowing the former leaders, men,
and how they act in different situations. Although this used to be a necessity
for their survival, now this knowledge helps women be successful in leadership
roles.
Some
of the leadership skills that women have and do better than men due to instinct
include mental flexibility, multi-tasking abilities, better speech and
communication, advanced social skills, powerful networking, and much more.
Female Empowerment in the Business World
Throughout
history, women have been put down by men physically and mentally to force the
belief that men are superior beings and women are required to heed to their
every need or expect punishment. This led to women being stuck at home taking
care of the children and the household needs. Even as a few women started to
join the workforce later on, they were mistreated and paid peanuts compared to
men in the same or even lower positions.
Although
women have come a long way, there is still quite a way to reach equality in the
workplace and leadership. Female empowerment brands have been attempting
to do that in the recent past. There are various tactics and strategies that
these brands have implemented to increase the involvement of women in the
workplace and leadership positions.
Female empowerment brands have provided more opportunities for women who
haven’t had access to real jobs in the past to showcase their talents and earn
an honest living. They also create products and services specifically designed
to make women's lives easier. Many of these brands allow women more accessible
access to work, such as work from home situations when going through their
period or extended maternity leaves for new mothers.
Female empowerment brands continue to break barriers by employing women
of color in higher positions and running campaigns and ads to spread awareness
for equal pay and opportunities for women. They have also provided access to
jobs for women trained to think traditionally to ease them out of the ingrained
toxic mentality of the patriarchal system.
